Lesedi Nuclear Services evolved from Intens Engineering which was founded soon after the construction and commissioning of South Africa´s Koeberg Nuclear Power Station by AREVA (global leader in design and construction of nuclear power plants) in the mid 1980´s. Lesedi was founded to provide engineering, recurrent maintenance services and technical resources for the South African Nuclear Power Industry. Since 2006 Lesedi has diversified to be a major Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) organisation having completed successful numerous projects in both nuclear and non-nuclear environments, primarily at Eskom´s Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant in the Western Cape and currently at the Medupi Coal Power Station in Limpopo.
In 2012, due to the growth of Lesedi within the industrial power generation market, a shareholding change was effected and resulted with the arrival of two new shareholders, Group Five - a multidisciplinary construction company - and the J&J Group - an empowerment investment holding and management company with a focus on power - including nuclear generation. AREVA remains the majority shareholder, while Group Five and J&J holding hold 16.05% each. The balance is held by Lesedi local management.
Today Lesedi is a Broad Based Black Empowerment Enterprise (BBBEE), employing more than 300 people including 76 qualified engineers and technicians with extensive nuclear expertise, as well as technicians, artisans, semi-skilled and administrative support personnel and highly experienced project management professionals.
